The Textbook

The textbook we are using for the grade level courses is from the Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley publications.  It is published by their affiliate Prentice Hall.  The series is called Middle School Math.

The series is 3 books long.  Course 1 is designed for sixth grade, course 2 seventh grade, and course 3 eighth grade.  The advanced class in seventh grade will skip over course 2 and go straight into the course 3 book.  After all three courses, the students will have completed a pre-algebra program.  Most will move on to Algebra I as ninth graders

The series is problem solving oriented with some application problems as well.  There is also a mix of drill and practice problems with a cumulative review throughout the book.  After being compared to the state benchmarks, there was a 95% correlation rate.

You can go to the textbook website at www.phschool.com and find some more information.

The Advanced Math 8 class will be using the Holt, Rhinehart, and Winston series called Algebra I.  It is a high school level text and is designed to be more hands on than past algebra books.  It also had a high correlation to CIM level benchmarks.  The website to view is www,hrw.com

After successful completion of this book, the algebra students will stay in the same series for Geometry and Algebra II in high school.
