Beaverton High School Student Congress

13000 SW 2nd Street, Beaverton OR  97005

March 9, 2010, Tuesday

Dear Speechies and Debaters

BHS would like to invite you our third spring congress.  We are hoping that this tournament will allow you to hone your skills for those districts and qualifying tournaments.  With that said, it is time to also have a little fun.  Again, the theme for the evening is all about the islands.  Please wear your best Hawaiian wear for competition.

The tournament will start at 4pm and we expect to wrap up by 8pm.  There will be two sessions for maximum speaking times with a break for dinner in between.  We have vending machines for drinks, but students should bring their own dinner or money to get dinner on their own.  Dairy Queen is down the street and there is a Vietnamese sandwich shop across the street.

Requirements:

We require each team to bring one judge.

The fee for a student to attend will be $4.

Please have your students submit at least one bill or resolution to speak on.  Bills and resolutions are required prior to competition, so like NFL, students can research the materials they debate on.  Please e-mail them to me by March 1, 4 pm.  I will e-mail the compilation of them to you later that evening or on March 2.

Registration deadline is March 5 , Friday at 4 pm.

You can  e-mail your bills, resolutions, and registration to me at the following address:  kristine_igawa@beavton.k12.or.us

Awards:

Hawaiian themed awards will be given to first, second and third speakers in each house, along with awards to the outstanding chairs.  There will also be an award for best Hawaiian attire.

We will have yummy snacks for those who come to judge.

Directions to the school can be found on Mapquest or Google Maps.  Registration and Judges Lounge will be in room 110.

We hope to see you in March!

Sincerely,

Kris Igawa
